Chelsea denies ticket discrimination
Feb 29, 2008 - 7:38 PM LONDON (Ticker) - Chelsea has denied claims it is discriminating against UK-based supporters with Greek surnames wanting to buy tickets for next week's Champions League game with Olympiacos at Stamford Bridge.Reports have suggested that the club would cancel tickets purchased by home-based supporters of Greek origin, but the Blues on Friday insisted as long as the tickets are purchased in person there would be no problem.
However, the club has blocked non-members with Greek surnames from buying tickets online in order to ensure it complies with UEFA rules on fan segregation.
It is understood the action was taken after a significant number of Olympiacos supporters attempted to buy tickets in an area reserved for Chelsea fans.
