NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Colorado Rapids forward Conor Casey shined in the highest scoring game of the season, and was rewarded on Monday by being named the MLS Player of the Week.
Casey scored three goals - including the game winner in the 90th minute - to help lift Colorado to a 5-4 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night in the league's most prolific scoring match.
He scored in the 11th, 45th and 90th minutes to record the first hat trick for the Rapids since Jeff Cunningham against Chivas USA on June 18, 2005.
Casey's efforts helped Colorado (10-12-4, 34 points) finish September undefeated, going 3-0-1. The Rapids currently stand in third place, behind the Western Conference-leading Houston Dynamo (10-5-10, 40 points) and Chivas USA (10-10-6, 36 points).
Enjoying a stellar sophomore campaign, the 27-year-old has eight goals for the Rapids.
