NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Houston Dynamo forward Brian Ching on Monday was named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week.
Ching recorded two goals and an assist to net the Dynamo (11-5-10) a postseason berth with a 3-1 triumph over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.
After a poor clearance by Colorado goalkeeper Preston Burpo, Ching settled the ball and drilled a shot into the open net in the second minute of the match.
After the Rapids leveled the contest five minutes later, Ching accepted a cross from Ricardo Clark and headed the ball into the crossbar. The ball caromed back to Ching, who sent it into the net for his 12th goal of the season.
Ching also played a role in the Dynamo's third goal, setting up Clark at the top of the penalty area. Clark quickly blasted a shot which slipped past Burpo.
The Player of the Week honor is Ching's second of the season and fourth of his career.
