Revolution M Ralston assessing injury

Oct 12, 2008 - 10:27 PM FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- New England Revolution captain Steve Ralston isn't willing to point the finger at Kansas City Wizards midfielder Herculez Gomez - yet.

Ralston suffered a broken right fibula after both he and Gomez vied for the ball during the 12th minute of the Wizards' 1-0 triumph over the Revolution on Saturday.

"I played the ball away and I didn't know what happened," Ralston said. "My leg was planted. I don't know if he kicked me or what happened. I would have to see it first. I won't say anything until I see it."

While he is hesitant now, Ralston knew that he was immediately injured on Saturday.

"When it first happened, I knew it hurt," Ralston said. "I was wondering what was going on here. I was hoping I could walk it off, then I realized I couldn't. I couldn't put any weight on it."

The midfielder, who is the MLS' all-time leader in games and assists, was transported to Providence Hospital in Kansas City on Saturday. He is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks, with the earliest return date being the MLS Cup on November 23 - should the Revolution advance that far in the postseason.

"It's normally a 6-8 week kind of deal, and MLS Cup is six weeks away," Ralston said. "The earliest it could be would be that game. But T.O. (Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens) came back earlier than that."

Ralston leads the Revolution with eight goals and seven assists this season. The 34-year-old missed three matches earlier this season due to back spasms.
