Fire F McBride nets MLS Player of Week honors
Oct 14, 2008 - 12:00 AM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Chicago Fire forward Brian McBride was named Major League Soccer's Player of the Week on Monday.McBride scored twice to lift the Fire to a 2-2 draw with the Columbus Crew, earning a berth in the MLS Cup playoffs for his side in the process.
The talented veteran opened the scoring in the 13th minute after knocking home a centering feed from Justin Mapp, and his tally in the 79th minute leveled the contest at 2-2. McBride settled a corner kick from Cuauhtemoc Blanco and struck a shot low just inside the right post for his fourth goal of the season.
For McBride, it was his first Player of the Week honor this season and fifth of his career.
The last time he achieved the feat was in 2003, when he was a member of the Crew.
