Real Salt Lake F Movsisyan honored

Nov 4, 2008 - 1:42 AM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Real Salt Lake forward Yura Movsisyan was named the MLS Playoff Player of the Week on Monday after scoring the game-winning goal in Saturday's 1-0 triumph over Chivas USA.

Movsisyan becomes the inaugural winner of the weekly award, which had previously been limited exclusively to regular-season matches. The goal was the first in playoff history for Salt Lake, which is making its first-ever postseason appearance.

With the teams in the midst of a scoreless tie and second-half injury time just seconds away from being announced, Robbie Russell threw a ball in to Javier Morales, who kept possession near Chivas' end touch line. Morales avoided losing the ball to two Chivas defenders and then slipped the ball across the box. Movsisyan redirected the ball with the flick of his right heel to the far end of the goal to give RSL a 1-0 triumph in the front end of the home-and-home aggregate series.

Movsisyan is the third Real player to win a Player of the Week honor this season, joining Robbie Findley in Week 10 and Fabian Espindola in Week 23.
