Sparta sinks Voldenam
Nov 15, 2008 - 11:13 PM With the top-four teams not in action, the attention was on the bottom end of the Eredivisie where FC Volendam fell to a heavy 4-0 defeat at the hands of Sparta Rotterdam on Saturday. It was a slightly flattering scoreline for the home side, who had to wait until the 73rd minute for Rydell Poepon to break the deadlock.
That goal opened the floodgates though as Charles Dissels (80), Ruud Knol (82 penalty) and Joey Godee (89) all found the target.
Volendam have just one win to their name this season and now sit five points from safety and Roda JC, who enjoyed a 3-0 win over NEC Nijmegen.
Sekou Cisse got the ball rolling after five minutes before two goals from Willem Janssen either side of half-time earned Roda only their second victory of the campaign.
Ten-man Heerenveen climbed to fifth on the back of a battling 3-2 win over FC Utrecht.
Ali Boussaboun's sixth-minute opener for Utrecht was immediately cancelled out by Danijel Pranjic before Roy Beerens put Heerenveen ahead after 41 minutes.
Tim Cornelisse fired Utrecht level on the stroke of half-time but Pranjic scored again seconds later to ensure the hosts held a 3-2 advantage at the interval.
Goran Popov was then given his marching orders for Heerenveen five minutes after the restart but Trond Sollied's men clung on for the three points.
In today's other match, Frank Demouge netted five minutes into second-half stoppage time to snatch a 1-0 victory for Willem II over ADO Den Haag.
NAC Breda sit at the top of the standings following their 3-0 win over Heracles Almelo last night but could be overtaken by AZ Alkmaar and Ajax if they win their respective matches Sunday.
No one has shouted yet.
