Chelsea star Drogba suspended three games
Nov 18, 2008 - 4:19 PM LONDON (Ticker) -- Chelsea star striker Didier Drogba has been suspended three games for throwing a coin at opposing fans during last week's stunning loss to Burnley. The suspension will take effect immediately, forcing Drogba to miss Chelsea's Premier League matches against Newcastle, Arsenal and Bolton.
"At a regulatory commission today, Chelsea forward Didier Drogba was given a three match suspension," the Football Association said in a statement released Tuesday. "Drogba admitted a charge of violent conduct."
Drogba, who has struggled so far this season, scored a goal in the first half of Chelsea's home loss to heavy underdog Burnley in the Carling Cup.
While Drogba was celebrating the goal in front of Burnley supporters, a coin was thrown at the 30-year-old Ivory Coast native. After making an obscene gesture at the fans, Drogba hurled the coin back into the crowd.
No one has shouted yet.
