Whitmore, Whalen help Sun overcome Sky
Jun 2, 2008 - 5:06 AM By PA SportsTickerCHICAGO (Ticker) - Tamika Whitmore and Lindsay Whalen scored 19 points apiece as the Connecticut Sun held off the Chicago Sky, 75-73, on Sunday night.
Barbara Turner scored 13 points off the bench for the Sun, who have won four of their first five games to start the season, including both contests away from Mohegan Sun Arena.
Jia Perkins scored 21 points but missed a potential game-tying jumper as time expired for Chicago, which outrebounded Connecticut, 43-34.
Rookie Sylvia Fowles recorded season highs with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Sky, who have not beaten the Sun at home in five tries in their three-year history.
In Sunday's other game:
SEATTLE 64, HOUSTON 63: Sue Bird converted the go-ahead layup with six seconds left as the Seattle Storm edged the Houston Comets, 64-63, on Sunday night.
Bird scored 17 points and Swin Cash added 11 of her 19 in the fourth quarter for the Storm, who have won five of their first six games to start the season - a franchise-best start.
