SACRAMENTO, California (Ticker) -- Sacramento Monarchs forward Kim Smith underwent surgery on her right ankle on Wednesday to repair damaged cartilage and remove a bone spur.
Smith sprained the ankle at practice on August 20, sidelining her for the rest of the season. The team said that Smith is expected to be out four to six weeks.
A little-used reserve who just completed her third WNBA season, the British Columbia native averaged 1.6 points and 0.7 rebounds in 21 games for the Monarchs this year. A four-time Mountain West Conference Player of the Year while at the University of Utah, Smith was the 13th overall selection of the 2006 draft.
