Rays decline options on DH Floyd, LHP Miller

PETERSBURG, Florida (Ticker) -- The Tampa Bay Rays on Monday declined their 2009 contract options for designated hitter Cliff Floyd and lefthander Trever Miller.Floyd, 35, would have made $2.75 million after batting .268 with 11 home runs and 39 RBI in 72 games this past season for the reigning American League champion Rays.
Miller, 35, went 2-0 last season with two saves and a 4.15 ERA over 68 relief appearances. His option was worth $2 million.
Also on Monday, the Rays announced that catcher Michel Hernandez cleared waivers and was outrighted to Class AAA Durham.
Hernandez, 30, appeared in five games behind the plate for the Rays in September and spent the entire postseason serving as the team's backup catcher to Dioner Navarro.
