No. 13 Air Force hopes to halt three-game slide

Feb 10, 2007 - 4:04 PM No. 13 Air Force (20-4) at New Mexico (14-10) 5:30 pm EST

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (Ticker) -- With just six regular-season games left, Air Force picked the wrong time to go into a slump.

The 13th-ranked Falcons attempt to snap a three-game road losing streak and remain in striking distance of first place in the Mountain West Conference when they meet New Mexico on Saturday.

Off to the best 24-game start in school history, Air Force (20-4, 7-3 MWC) has split its last six contests after opening 17-1 and has fallen one game behind Brigham Young in conference play.

The Falcons set a season-low in points in Tuesday's 62-41 loss to San Diego State. Andrew Henke scored 11 points and was the only player in double figures for Air Force, which shot a season-worst 36 percent (17-of-47) from the floor.

After losing seven of its first eight games in January, New Mexico (14-10, 3-6) has won its last two and is one game ahead of TCU in the race to avoid last place in the conference standings.

New Mexico is coming off last Saturday's 70-66 victory at Colorado State. Tony Danridge made 10-of-17 shots and scored 24 points for the Lobos, who are 12-2 at home this season.

Air Force has won six of the last eight encounters against New Mexico, including a 65-57 triumph on January 9. The Lobos squandered a 21-point first-half lead as the Falcons went on a 40-7 run to rally for the victory.
