No. 19 Connecticut looks for third victory vs. Fairfield

Nov 18, 2006 - 6:18 PM Fairfield (0-4) No. 19 Connecticut (2-0) 8:00 pm EST

HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- After a shaky season-opening victory, Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun is feeling a little better about his young team.

Jerome Dyson looks to lead the 19th-ranked Huskies in scoring for the third consecutive game Saturday when they face intrastate rival Fairfield in the second day of the Hispanic College Fund Classic.

After shooting just 30 percent (17-of-56) from the floor and committing 21 turnovers in defeating Quinnipiac on November 10, the Huskies played the kind of basketball Calhoun prefers in Friday's 88-59 triumph over Central Arkansas.

Dyson scored 20 points, Jeff Adrien added 14 with 11 rebounds and Stanley Robinson netted 13 for Connecticut, which scored 28 points off turnovers and 44 in the paint.

Fairfield coach Ed Cooley is still searching for his first victory since taking over the Stags in the offseason. They have come close to reaching that milestone, losing two overtime games and one by three points.

Greg Nero scored 19 points, Michael Van Schaick added 16 and Herbie Allen and Anthony Johnson 10 each for Fairfield in Friday's 70-67 loss to Mississippi. The Stags are averaging just 58.2 points this season.

Connecticut has won 16 consecutive meetings against Fairfield by an average of 23.5 points.
