CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- With three of its top six scorers gone from the team that reached the regional finals last season, Xavier was expected to take a step back this season. Thus far, that hasn't happened.
The 14th-ranked Musketeers shoot for their seventh straight win when they host Auburn on Wednesday.
Xavier is off to its best start since the 1996-97 campaign, when it won its first 10 contests.
Defense has been a key for the Musketeers, who are allowing 58.7 points per contest.
Derrick Brown scored 23 points in Xavier's 60-53 victory over Miami, Ohio on Saturday and continued to lead a balanced scoring attack at 12.7 per game.
The Tigers have dropped two straight games, including a 67-61 setback to Northern Iowa on Saturday.
DeWayne Reed leads Auburn in scoring at 13.8 points per game.
Xavier defeated Auburn, 80-57, last season.
